Are you spending a lot of time and also a lot of money to get perfect thick and long hair as they show in tv ads? Well, obviously the ads are hyped up to attract customers but that does not change the fact that we desire thick and healthy hair.

It gets very confusing to understand what is best for you when your mother tells you to oil your hair every day and your hairstylist tells you to get smoothing done to get smooth and silky hair. So the question arises what is best for you?

Hair cells are the fastest-growing cells in the human body and are directly affected by the diet we consume. This is the main reason that we have more hair fall. Our body is deficient of any vitamin or mineral. Iron-rich food and proteins are suggested by experts for healthy hair.

We have also put together a list of hair care tips that will help you get healthy hair.

1. Wash your hair regularly

This is no rocket science. You must wash your hair regularly to make sure any excess oil or dirt is removed. Regularly does not mean every day as that can make your scalp very dry. Therefore if you have dry scalp it is recommended that you wash your hair only two times a week whereas if your scalp is oily you can wash it on alternate days.

2. Avoid hot water showers

We love our long hot water showers. But hot showers do a lot of damage to both our skin and our hair. Hot water strips protective oil from your hair and makes them dry and brittle. Warm water showers i.e, shower with water that is slightly warmer than your body temperature. This hair care tip is the one that most of us avoid because hot water showers are very soothing.

3. Dry naturally

Yes, blow-drying gives your hair a nice volume and makes you feel like you just walked out of a salon but in the long run blow-drying regularly damages your hair. Excess amount of styling and heat makes your hair weak and damages the roots. Let your hair dry naturally and do not rub it harshly with a towel because it will damage the hair cuticles. Pat dry your hair and then comb them smoothly.

4. Don’t forget to oil your hair

Oiling your hair and massaging your scalp relaxes your muscles and improves blood circulation. It also nourishes your hair and boosts the shine. Oiling regularly repairs split ends, restores the moister content, and makes your hair grow faster and thicker. Try not to use mineral oils. You can use coconut, olive, almond, castor oil, etc.

5. Fix sun damage

Since we go out and our hair comes in direct contact with the sunlight, there is quite a good amount of damage caused there. To reverse the damage make a paste of ½ cup of honey, 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil, and 1-2 tablespoons of egg yolk and apply it on your scalp. Then rinse it off with warm water. The egg has protein there for the egg hair mask restores protein which is very good for your hair.

6. Trim

A lot of people have a misconception that trimming makes hair grow faster. Trimming every 6-8 weeks helps you get rid of the split ends which are caused because of exposure to the environment, chemicals, stress, and styling. Therefore, trimming makes you get rid of the damaged hair and they appear healthy.

7. Chemical-free shampoo

Environmental factors that cause damage to your hair is beyond your control. What you can take care of is the shampoo, conditioner, and other hair products that you use. Sulfate and parabens are used to form lather and are harmful and excessive quantities of these chemicals is harmful to your hair. They can also cause skin irritation and hormonal disruption.

8. Do not brush wet hair

Wet hair is three times weaker than dry hair. Always pat dry or air dry your hair and then comb it smoothly using a comb with thick bristles first to unknot them. This kind of comb prevents your hair from damage and breaking.

Extra tips: Always use cloth rubber bands instead of plastic ones. Do not tie your hair tightly. This causes hair to break more.
